Apparently no one, because today those who want to spend 679 euros can find a Galaxy S10 Plus instead of taking the new Galaxy S10 Lite, and the same thing applies to the Note 10, even if it is difficult to find it under a certain amount. But there is always a Note 10, and not a “Lite” version which has only a few elements of the Note 10, including of course the pen. What are these models for then? There are two categories of users, those who follow the technology market and those who enter a shop and look for a smartphone. Those who follow the market know what they want and wait for that product to drop in price, others have a budget to spend, come in and want to buy the best product for their needs. And the two Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite are made just for these people: the new Galaxy will soon be released, and together with the Galaxy S10 which will remain on the market at a lower price, however, a user can also buy this S10 Lite which in some respects is not so different. It also introduces some elements, such as the design of the rear and front rooms, which will be typical of the new flagship: Samsung begins to get people used to the S20 design.
We saw the Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy Note Lite in Las Vegas, we tried and touched them, and after a first skeptical impact we thought that in the end they are products that can be found in their location. They offer everything a “standard” user wants, and they give up what a user who is not very interested in the technological aspect asks for. The screen is almost identical for both: 6.7 ”AMOLED with very thin bezels, a Full HD + screen that is perfect for all needs. The pixels are not seen, and a higher resolution would have also led to a greater energy consumption, therefore a correct and wise decision.
How correct is the choice to sacrifice edge glass for a beautiful curved glass: both devices leave aside the aesthetics for functionality, a flat glass of those of the old days that can be used very well from side to side. The screen is of the “Infinity O” type, therefore with the integrated chamber inside the OLED, but the hole of the Note 10 Lite, below, is smaller and more discreet than that of the S10 Lite.
The better of the two? Difficult to say, perhaps the union of the two would have been the perfect solution. Because the Galaxy S10 Lite has a Snapdragon 855 processor and, as seen on the Galaxy Fold, it works much better especially from the point of view of the autonomy of the Exynos. An S10 Lite with 4500 mAh battery and Snapdragon 855 processor should have a much longer autonomy than both S10 + and S10. The biometric sensor is under the optical type screen, the RAM of 8 GB and the expandable storage memory of 128 GB: endowed by medium-high end smartphones, which today go a bit in the background compared to those that may be example cameras.
And here Samsung introduces news, bringing behind S10 Lite a module that will be similar to that of S20. The main sensor is the 48-megapixel Samsung already used by other manufacturers, then there is the 12-megapixel super wide and a 5 megapixel macro that we are ready to bet will also be the fourth S20 camera. Hard to say what a macro is for on a smartphone, but it is now a trend, and Samsung is not the first to put it. The zoom is made by making a crop of the sensor on the main module, nothing unusual.
What is missing? Wireless charging, waterproof and audio jack are missing. Which certainly interest those who follow the segment, but not so much for those looking for a smartphone, autonomy, fast charging, a lot of speed, a good screen and a good camera.
Note 10 Lite is similar, although inside there is an Exynos as well as the nib. The Exynos is a little more energetic than Qualcomm, and moreover there are also 2 GB of RAM less on the device that perhaps would have needed more, a very particular choice. Same battery, 4500 mAh, but different camera configuration: three 12-megapixel cameras, the main one dual pixel f / 1.7, the tele 12 mp f / 2.4 OIS and the super wide 12 megapixel f / 2.2.
It is not the Note 10, but it is still a Note and allows many people to have an updated, new, and nib terminal. Many people who want a Note today often fall back on the previous year’s terminals in order not to spend too much, and the Note 10 Lite offers Note features at an affordable price.
They cost € 679 and € 629, but we are faced with two “strategic” products on which some operations will certainly also be carried out with the telcos, with a price that could be further reduced. Many people, as we wrote, could consider them useless smartphones: for those people the Galaxy S20 are coming. But within the commercial proposition of Samsung, and from the point of view of a company that has to cover all price ranges, the two “Lite” are perfectly fine.
