The inspiration for my article today comes from Michele Serra, columnist of the Republic, which, in his column on Friday, weekly attached to the newspaper founded by Eugenio Scalfari, discuss the difference between right and left. Summarize brutally. According to him, the first collects votes from voters who are often good-natured, "who are not much to be subdued". The second vice-versa receives approval from more finicky, more demanding people. But he does not say what they demand. In more vulgar but perhaps less vague words, the leaguers are boors who think little, while the progressives are high-profile men and women, sensitive and attentive to the real needs of society.

It may be that there is something true or likely in these statements. However I would like to point out to the esteemed Serra that the left was not born yesterday, but derives its origin from the old e deceased Communist Party, supported for years by an almost majority crowd of modest workers without higher education, the so-called proletarians, who relied on Marxism in the hope of living better and had no academic illusions.

Sociologically, they constituted a mass similar to the one we currently have gives confidence and suffrages to Salvini. That is, an enormous mass of individuals who have passed in a decade from sympathy for Leninism and similar to a sort of affection for the Carroccio. I wonder without polemical spirit: if they were good and intelligent when they traced the cross on the symbol of the PCI, they cannot suddenly become fools since today they prefer to trace it in favor of Alberto da Giussano. If they are fools now, they were yesterday too. It is unlikely that they suffered such a negative brain mutation within a few years.

From my irrelevant point of view, the lords and ladies who converted to Legaism have taken a step forward and not backward, given the wretched end that real socialism has made. There is no doubt that the left is militating good brains, whose ideas however have proved to be unsuccessful, and I do not say so, as demonstrated by historical results. Therefore I believe it is legitimate to say that the progressives are cavemen, while the leaguers live in the present with greater lucidity.
