NEW YORK – Harvey Weinstein and its accusers have reached a preliminary agreement. An extra-judicial plea bargaining for 25 million dollars that concerns dozens of alleged victims of the former producer who reported him civilly for harassment and rape. Weinstein, sources said New York Times, should not pay anything out of his own pocket nor should he admit the sexual assaults he is accused of.The agreement requires the go-ahead of the court and the final signature of all parties. To pay would be insurance companies that represent the Weinstein Company, Weinstein's former production studio ended up bankrupt. The 25 million to the accusers would be a part of a total of 47 million dollars with which the company would settle accounts with creditors. According to the lawyers of some of the victims, Weinstein himself may soon be forced to personally resort to Chapter 11 protections.

Today, meanwhile, the former boss of Miramax appeared in court walking with difficulty with the help of a "walker": tomorrow – his lawyers said – he will be operated on his back. At the end of the hearing, Judge James Burke increased the bail from one to five million dollars for violating the conditions of house arrest by improperly using the electronic bracelet.Weinstein is expected to return to court in early January to respond to allegations of two women claiming to have been sexually assaulted in 2006 and 2013. The criminal trial against the former producer attracted the bulk of the attention while the civil cases went ahead with secret talks involving American women, but also Canadians, British and Irish, the charges of which in many cases were time-barred.

Eighteen of them will share a total of 6.2 million dollars with the condition that none will receive more than half a million each. Another block of money, amounting to 18.5 million, will go to the participants in a class-action and future prosecutors, with a mandate to a court appointee to establish the extent of the payments based on the severity of the damage suffered. Among the accusers of Weinstein there are also famous actresses like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow is Salma Hayek: none of them is part of the complaints at the center of the plea agreement.
