The error comes immediately after the "Vissi d'arte", one of Tosca's most intense moments. That may be why, at La Scala, no one in the public, not even among the very demanding "loggers", seems to notice. But the defaillance of the soprano Anna Netrebko does not escape the spectators on TV, or even the colleagues on stage. We are at the end of the second act: Tosca is in the palace of the perfidious Scarpia, who has just extorted from her the confession that led to the suicide of the Republican Angelotti. Now, if he wants to save at least his lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, from the gallows, he must grant himself to the head of the papal guards. Tosca is about to give in but fears (and rightly so) a new trap. "Who assures me?" that if I say yes Mario will be saved, he asks Scarpia. The baron then calls his henchman Spoletta and instructs him: we will do a simulated execution. Cavaradossi will be shot but pretended, and then he can leave the papal state. At this point Tosca, not entirely heartened, should make another request: "I want to warn him myself".
But the talented Netrebko, who has just passed the applause of open-air "Vissi d'arte", re-proposed by Chailly with the two additional measures of the original score, gets confused and repeats: "Who assures me?". The TV images show her immediately aware of the error. Even the baritone Luca Salsi hesitates a moment: he too repeats his joke again, then jumps to the right one. They are 15 seconds in all, immortalized immediately in the tweets.

"Social media do not forgive", it is said in these cases. But no, socials forgive: "What elegance to get out of the way with a glance". "Anyway very good". "Great professionals" is the content of comments on Twitter. And the 16 minutes of final applause unite the audience at the theater and at home. (A.B.)
