COP25, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, will be held in Madrid from 2 to 13 December. The conference should have been held in Santiago de Chile, but has been moved to Spain because of anti-government protests in recent months in Chile. "The point of no return is no longer beyond the horizon," said the UN secretary general Antonio Guterres before the opening of the work, about the climate emergency that the whole world is facing. "In the next 12 months it will be essential to guarantee more ambitious national commitments, in particular from the main producers, to immediately start reducing greenhouse gas emissions at a rate consistent with achieving carbon neutrality by 2050". The leaders of some 50 countries will participate in the conference, but US President Donald Trump will not be there, who just formally launched the procedure to exit the Paris climate agreement less than a month ago. In his place will be the speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, of the Democratic Party, along with a delegation of parliamentarians.
