Cardinal Konrad Krajewski launched an appeal for the Church to welcome the 33 refugees who arrived at Fiumicino

"I address the cardinals, bishops, presbyters, and religious: let us begin, starting with myself, our canonics, convents, monasteries to each house at least one family from the Lesbos refugee camps, to be able to empty them all. There are". It is the appeal launched by the Pope's almsgiver, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, welcoming the 33 refugees who arrived at Fiumicino from the island of Lesbos through a humanitarian corridor.

The reception to 33 refugees of different nationalities, as well as that foreseen for another 10 in the coming days, in agreement with the Ministry of the Interior, "aims to offer a future to those who live – many for a long time now – in the fields refugees on the Greek island ". After the visit last May with the Apostolic Alms, Sant'Egidio had organized in the summer (between July and August) a presence of volunteers in Lesvos and in Samos to demonstrate, through various initiatives, its solidarity with the refugees present in the two islands .
