In addition to a part of the militant body of the three promoting organizations, the attendance audience saw widespread participation by trade union and movementless party activists. The internal opposition to the CGIL ("We reconquer everything"), the General Basic Syndicate (SGB) and the Si Cobas intervened on behalf of the respective organizations. There were also trade union representatives from struggling companies such as Whirpool and Unicredit and a member of the movement to fight "Differentiated Autonomy".
The assembly was introduced by Ferrando, who presented the meaning of the initiative. "The unified national assembly of the opposition lefts does not want to be and will not be the umpteenth prefiguration of an electoral cartel, nor the embryo of a new political subject to be built in the laboratory. It wants to be an instrument of unity of action on the terrain of class struggle and social movements ". A unit that therefore aims to unify the action of all the lefts which are placed in the opposition "of the government of capital", in contrast with the dynamics of dispersion and fragmentation of these years. The goal is therefore to rebuild a social opposition, class and mass, against the Conte government and against the right. The assembly "does not question the political autonomy of the various subjects that contribute to it, but wants to enhance a common battle". Strong exemplary call to the general strike in progress in France against "the Fornero law of Macron". The thesis is that only the reconstruction of a mass opposition front can block the road to the right. A right that instead is fertilized by the continuity of the employers' policies of the Pd, M5S, Renzi and Leuero government to have reported "the direct presence of the great capital in the command post" – and by the subordination to these policies both of the parliamentary left and of the vertices of the CGIL. The proposed connection between class claims and environmentalist and feminist reasons is also strong.
During the assembly, three unitary campaigns were approved. The first for the general reduction in working hours with the same pay ("the work that is there is distributed among all so that no one is deprived of work"). The second for true nationalizations, starting from the companies that fire, relocate, pollute ("if the bosses fire the workers, the workers have the right to claim the dismissal of those bosses"). And finally, a campaign on political terrain, which brings together more demands: cancellation of the security decrees and infamous agreements with Libya; rupture of Italy with NATO and withdrawal of Italian troops from all military missions.
On these issues and around these campaigns a national mobilization day was held in late January, prepared by local assemblies and initiatives. To develop this intervention, a "National Coordination of the Action Unit" was promoted open to all organizations that are "willing to commit themselves to the common class opposition".
