Marcello Dell'Utri returns free: he has served his sentence. It remains a defendant in the state-mafia trial

Marcello Dell'Utri tomorrow will finish serving his sentence and will therefore return to freedom. The former senator from Forza Italia sentenced to seven years for external competition in the Mafia association, was under house arrest for health reasons since July 2018. From tomorrow he can leave his home in Milan. After a brief escape to Lebanon, attempted on the eve of the Cassation's ruling which then finalized the sentence, he was extradited to Italy and entered prison in May 2014.Dell'Utri was detained in a high security regime in the Parma prison, then in Rebibbia. Finally, under house arrest for health reasons. He enjoyed early release as required by law. However, the legal proceedings of Publitalia's former manager have not yet been concluded: it is attributed to the trial on the so-called State-mafia negotiation. He was inflicted 12 years in the first instance. The appeal is ongoing. The former senator is also on trial in Naples and Milan for the abduction of hundreds of ancient books.
