Franco Morbidelli wins the pole position of the 8 Hours of Sepang. The MotoGP rider, at his first experience in the FIM EWC World Endurance Championship, makes an impeccable lap with the R1 of the Yamaha Sepang Racing Team stopping the clock on the 2'04 ″ 647. Great enthusiasm in the team funded by the host Razlan Razali, who set up a luxury team also formed by Hafizh Syahrin and Michael van der Mark. The Malaysian track seems to lead well to Franco Morbidelli, given that this year he won the front row in the premier class.

Second half for Somkiat Chantra of Makoto Tamada's Honda Asia team, followed by Josh Hook with F.C.C. TSR Honda. 4th Jeremy Guarnoni, with Kawasaki SRC, 5th place for returning Markus Reiterberger (BMW Motorrad World Endurance) to precede Niccolò Canepa (Yamaha YART). At the debut, the ERC Ducati Team qualifies in seventh position with the Panigale V4 R driven by Randy De Puniet, followed by Azlan Shah (BMW Sepang), Xavier Simeon (VRD Igol Yamaha) and Gino Rea, slipped to the Klia corner on his lap from Superpole.
