F1, test Abu Dhabi: Bottas in front of Vettel on the first day

YAS MARINA – The 2019 World Championship ended a few hours ago but Formula One is back on track. In Abu Dhabi, in fact, the first test day was held where the best time was signed by Valtteri Bottas: 138 laps for the Mercedes of Finland – only Max Verstappen with 153 and Romain Grosjean with 146 did more – and a time trial of 1'37 "124. Behind him, two laps less and 867 thousandths of delay, Sebastian Vettel with Ferrari but he used the 2020 version of the softer compound made available by Pirelli, the C5, while Bottas got the fastest lap with the C4 used in this season.

Technical problems for Alfa Romeo

Each team, in fact, had 10 sets of tires available that include both the 2019 compounds and those planned for the next World Championship. Behind Vettel, also the protagonist of a contact with Sergio Perez, the Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat, the Racing Point of the Mexican and the Haas of Grosjean, all with the C5 of 2020. Kvyat has divided the work with Sean Gelael, who in the end closed in the eleventh time. Sixth Lando Norris with McLaren ahead of Verstappen (best lap with the C3 medium next season), then Esteban Ocon. The French driver made his debut at the wheel of the Renault where in the next vintage he will take the place of Hulkenberg alongside Ricciardo: 77 laps for him and 2 ″ 8 late from Bottas. Finally, a reduced test day for Alfa Romeo, with Kimi Raikkonen stopped by a technical problem. Tomorrow it will be Giovinazzi's turn.
