It starts from Rome. According to Volagratis.com the capital is the protagonist with three structures: the Trustevere hostel, the Free Hostel and The Yellow. The first, in the heart of Porta Portese, where the traditional local market is held every Sunday, has an all-Italian myth as its theme: the Ape calessino. The famous Piaggio means of transport blends with an industrial style rich in details studied in detail, creating a modern and dynamic location. The second is inspired instead by the Northern European boutique hotels with a minimalist but colorful style, rich in geometries that play with space both from a decorative and functional point of view, providing guests not only common areas in which to socialize but also corners and shelves that fully respect privacy. The latter, instead, was born with the idea of redefining the concept of a traditional hostel. Not just a place to rest, therefore, but a real meeting and entertainment point, where you can do yoga in the morning, attend international music concerts or participate in a cooking class. All within a minimalist environment and studied in detail. Aohostels.com also inserts the Generator, of the famous chain present in many European cities, also in this case focused on design and activities (there are also in London, Dublin, Barcelona, Berlin and so on). Momondo.it, which instead has selected the most popular, does not even see a Roman one in the standings: at the top of the most appreciated in the country there is the Plus Florence followed by the California Hostel and the Milan Hostel, both in the Lombard capital.
Volagratis.com also selects Ostelzzz and the famous Ostello Bello on the country's economic capital. In the first case it is the first capsule hotel in Milan, a concept born in the great Japanese metropolises and landed in Italy only a few years ago that provides minimal but comfortable spaces. This hi-tech hostel, complete with a personal social network with which to communicate with guests, plays on the contrast between the futuristic sleeping spaces, isolated from each other, and a sense of community that can be born online and in common spaces. The second, instead, is inspired by the hipster atmospheres following the mix & match style: here each table is surrounded by different chairs, the walls are full of books, some details seem to come directly from the fifties, while others from the colorful Seventies. A true journey into design between different styles and ages. Aohostels.com adds the Babila Hostel, not far from Piazza San Babila, inside a building of 1896 with a bar and a bistro.
The tour continues through Italy with Bologna, where the Dopa Hostel stands out – a hymn to “diy”, the DIY made with style, creativity and passion, given that 99% of the decorations and furnishings were handmade with new and recycled materials, mixing tradition with innovation, including wooden pieces and iron details – and the We_Bologna Hostel, opened by renovating the old houses of the railwaymen who left and worked every day in the nearby central station. A structure that tends to help protect the environment, including energy savings and special attention to reducing waste. The rooms and the rooms are minimal and colorful and nothing is left to chance.
Florence, in fact, touches the summit with Plus Florence, the most appreciated according to Momondo.it, but also selected by Volagratis.com. A place where the size of the hotel and the hostel meet, a structure studied in detail with colorful dormitories and rooms that have nothing to envy to those of hotels scattered throughout Europe. Everything is enriched with a large swimming pool for guests and large common areas where to socialize and live the most classic hostel life. We also add the Hostel Gallo d'Oro, a quarter of an hour walk from the Duomo and an entire section "women only", dedicated to female travelers. Its brightly colored rooms are modern and essential, while the common areas mix the best of the 60s and 70s styles. Momondo.it reports among the most appreciated in the period October 2018-October 2019 also the Hostel Europa Villa Camerata.
And if the Generator chain returns to Venice (with a structure overlooking the Giudecca canal, inside an old warehouse), there is also the AO Venezia Mestre 2 ten minutes by train from the center with a modern design and good for everyone: young people, groups and families. Another leap of the boot and you arrive at the Yard Hostel in the center of Catania: it mixes the rustic style with the industrial one, with brightly colored details, large common areas and equally spacious dormitories. Each area has its own personality, geometries of its own and decorations ranging from mosaics to the most traditional Sicilian ceramics: a journey into design where each door gives access to a different world. But also stands the Hostel of the Elephants in a building of the 1600s, one of the oldest in the Etna capital. Staying in the South, in the different selections there is the Naples Experience Backpackers Hostel, not far from Capodimonte, which is part of a chain that is also present in Rome for holidays suitable for any budget. Aohostels.com adds the more central Neapolitan Trips, a stone's throw from via Medina. You can also see Sardinia with the Hostel Sardinia in Quartu Sant’Elena with a nice bar full of beers, reused furniture and 30 rooms available.

In Matera, the European capital of culture for 2019, there is instead the Ostello dei Sassi, derived from the restoration of the "lamioni", the ancient peasant dwellings that characterize the Lucan city. Although it is equipped with every comfort and rooms and common spaces have been completely restored, the structure has obviously not lost its personality, allowing all travelers to experience Matera from the inside and immersed in its soul that is fascinating thousands of people in these months.
In Turin, Volagratis.com and Aohostels.com unanimously point out the Bamboo Eco Hostel, which as its name says among its focuses boasts that of eco-sustainability: a space where a relaxed atmosphere reigns full of colors, as well as a decorated family environment with objects from the most important flea markets in the city. In short, a home away from home where you can rest and socialize with people from all over the world. While in Genoa the Abbey Hostel stands out, combining the practicality of the hostels with the privacy of the hotels, with rooms built in an ancient convent and designed above all for families and small groups of travelers, a stone's throw from the Aquarium and in the historic center. First of all, Verona proposes The Hostello, a step away from the center and in the heart of the university district, with attention to the smallest details, to give guests an atmosphere that combines the most typical styles of Northern Europe with the warm Mediterranean colors, including rooms with covered walls of exposed stones and somewhat hipster common areas. Among the latter stands out the garden, a small private oasis available to all travelers. And then the Stravagante Hostel, in the Porta Palio area and inaugurated in 2018, is the first social hostel in the city: a structure for youth tourism with a bar-restaurant managed also by people with disabilities.
And while Momondo.it includes other structures among the most appreciated, all in Milan (from the Star Hostel to the Old Milano House) the tour closes at the Europe Station rooms in Parma where each room has its own personality, both in terms of colors that distinguish it from the style and details that decorate it. From dormitories to double rooms, each apartment has its own private balcony, while the bathrooms have a hydromassage shower, ideal after a day spent around the city. Have a good trip.
