The news was given by residents of the neighborhood through a page on social media late yesterday (Monday 11 November) and the solidarity around the boy is growing both on the web and in the area where Mike (the victim's name) is known by citizens and young people attending nearby schools.
Yesterday morning at about 10 am in the underpass of the Cure, "two people with hoods attacked me and punched me", says the same Nigerian boy on Gimmy Tranquillo's microphones who also collected testimonies and passers-by and of the people who live or work in the area.
Mike has always been down there for four years now, helping the elderly to carry bags and offering his articles to those who ask them. “An infamous act that taints our neighborhood and our Florence, which has always been a land of welcome and culture. Thats enough !! It is time to raise a barricade of humanity against these vile and cowardly gestures. Fiorenza has always been an example city for the world, remember it! ”, An excerpt from the post that appeared on Facebook.
"The nice thing is that so many kids who were coming to school next door passed on to greet him, to ask him how he was, to show him solidarity … surely for now even just passing by for a greeting or a sign of solidarity to him is very pleased. Waiting to organize something … ", reads one of the many comments left on the web.
Meanwhile, this morning Mike is back in the underpass surrounded by gestures of solidarity and closeness. He is afraid but does not intend to leave. On the spot, after the attack, the police arrived, warned by passers-by, who collected his testimony.
