After the controversy of the past few days on the rave at the former Trw, we wanted to put aside the tragic death of the 30-year-old girl, and focus on Witchtek 2019. In this article we try to tell you about the rave party, the organization behind it and the philosophy that has led young and less young people to the former Trw, the shed symbol of the industrial crisis in Livorno.

Social networks are a fantastic place and at the same time a den of every kind of human passion, including the most genuine malice. They are a fantastic place, because one click is enough to find out things that otherwise I would not even know where to start, but they also have a very bad side, that of impulsive response, ignorance and moralism for free. In all this, however, there is a common denominator: they all post, often publicly, without realizing that anyone with a minimum of research can come to know everything about others. These days I have tried to exploit these strengths and weaknesses of social media to get to understand what happened to Trw, and it was very easy. Here's the story, but first a note: I don't want to go into the merits of the responsibility of the story, I just want to tell what happened in Livorno in those days and why.
Preparation of crates at the rave
Of the rave culture or you are passionate, and it is not my case, or it is difficult to understand the philosophy that lurks behind. But let's start with the name, just open a couple of articles from the Tyrrhenian or Livorno Today to find out the name of the rave: Witchtek, literally "the witch's rave". By typing this name on the main social networks, ie Facebook and Instagram, you will be projected into a parallel world, of which you have never heard before, but which will make you experience the rave of the former Trw as if you had been there. Like many others, I don't like to talk about things without knowing them, and when I read someone I write "the boys use the drug that kills them"I think it is so out of the world of young people that it will never be able to break through our hearts, I have decided to make myself a culture about a world which, although I do not share, I think it is right to know, especially in light of the two boys who died in the round less than a year: April 2019, stabbed in the throat on the first, November 2019 sudden illness for the second. The death toll is this, two young people, in the same place: Livorno, an industrial warehouse of the former Trw, as big as four football fields, once the jewel in the crown of the Italian automotive components, which has become out of the blue. symbol of the industrial crisis, with 450 workers laid off in 2015.
Typing on Witchtek 2019 on Facebook is a huge amount of posts and photos, like this video (click to open) that can give you an idea of what we're talking about: an underground party, but well organized. A boy proudly comments "video made by me", and in fact his profile is full of public posts with photos and videos of Witchtek 2019. But we continue to scour the socials for knowledge, and the page Black drop sound organization comes out, that begins to provide us with a much more outlined idea of the DJs, groups or crew that played at the event (as the video below shows).
I continue searching on Facebook, and I also add Instagram, finding a series of photos of the shed set up with Halloween decorations, boxes, stands of all kinds, caravans, pickup trucks, cars, strobe lights; there is everything, there are even the “disguised” industrial remnants, the photos of the boys on the roofs of the sheds close to the Trw, dangerous, with numerous infiltrations and above all high.
There are people of all ages and from all walks of life: from alleged drug addicts in a confused state, to young workers who want to take "a three-day break", obviously passing by minors and children coming from all over Italy. The music goes on for days, changing more genres: October 31, November 1 and November 2, three days 24 hours, there are tents where you cook a meal at the least worst, there is every kind of drug, but you won't find out this from the social media, as from this article in the daily newspaper written by a journalist infiltrated to Pasquatek, the Easter rave always at the former Trw.
At some point I also come across official poster of the event, there is a phone number taken as reference, but it is deleted in every public post, but there is the headline of the artists involved.
Given the organization so well oiled and the great participation, I tried to infiltrate this type of network, I could have done it the old way: by asking those present, by those who posted, but I would have been suspicious and I wouldn't have achieved anything.

So I continued to look on social media if there were traces of the organizers, but I found a conspicuous and shrewd silence, from which only the pages of the DJs and crews that were invited to play can be distinguished. For the rest on the social networks it is forbidden to disseminate precise information or organize itself, everything passes by instant messaging, such as WhatsApp or Telegram, which makes interception by law enforcement very difficult. But I did not give up, and continuing to search at the end I landed in the Eldorado of the spread of these events: a site whose name I do not provide (for various reasons). I checked who the domain owners are and a name and address of a domain are ticked social center of Brescia. On the site there is all the information for the next raves: dates, posters and headline.
At this point I stopped searching and I got some information about the underground philosophy behind these events. We can say that it is the same common to many countercultures by the hippies onwards: the search for shared freedom, going against the system, violating private property and enhancing diversity as a form of libertarian expression. Another common element, which emerges clearly from these pages, is the visceral hatred towards the police and the state, which confirms the theory of anti-systemic counterculture. On the page of one of the crews involved you can also see a video of a squabble with agents during a stop outside the shed where at some point the situation becomes more tense, but a guy tries in his own way to bring everyone back to order: "No, the speakers! Then she pays me, along with the state and the police. With all due respect, excuse me, agent eh … because I don't want to disrespect you as a person, outside the uniform".
The person is respected, what is not respected is the uniform, the authority. Here is the reason for the abusive occupations and the distrust of those who are not around the raves.
Having finished this journey in the social hyperuranium in search of the essence (or Platonic idea) of raves, each of us is free to make his own idea on this phenomenon but, without going into the merits of political controversy, one thing I want to say: drug-related deaths, unfortunately widespread in this type of event, always have a means which is the substance, but the use of substances is never a habit that can be automatically sorted into the dichotomy between good and evil ("He takes drugs because he is a person bad "), the use of substances, and perhaps even 4 different types of drugs in the same evening, as the philosophy of raves shows, is a question that affects the individual, his own experience, the philosophy that follows in the life and why it follows.
Then perhaps the problem is upstream, it is not only in the safety or in the abuse of substances, the problem is halfway between the lust for self-assertion, typical of young people, and the emptiness of values, which deprives them of a compass to orient their lives. In the absence of a compass, or choosing the counterculture as a form of orientation or amusement to distract yourself from the void, they walk the path of illegality, libertarian, transgressive and sometimes passive and self-destructive, whether at home, in a disco or in a shed occupied illegally.
It is always easy in these cases to blame the institutions and authorities, because it is difficult to deal with the issue from an educational, social, cultural and spiritual point of view. When we come to cry the dead is always too late, and there is never anyone who instead of judging stops to think about what comes before swallowing 4 tablets, and wonders how a person can choose the way of pleasure up to get to self-destruction taken to its extreme form.
