On Wednesday 6 November, the 59-year-old American, three-time world champion in the 500 class, returned to riding a sport bike after the 1993 accident after which he lost the use of his legs: he was riding with a Yamaha YZF-R1 on the Willow Springs, California circuit: "I felt young again"
Wayne Rainey, three times world champion of the 500 class with the Yamaha between 1990 and 1992, he returned to the saddle after the serious accident in the race at Misano in September 1993 (while he was leading the World Championship). Because of that fall he lost the use of his legs, but now at 59, Rainey returned to driving a sport bike. On Wednesday 6 November, the former US pilot turned with one Yamaha YZF-R1 modified, on the circuit of Willow Springs, California, trying again the emotions and sensations of the past. For the occasion, Rainey used one special suit, with the same colors worn in 1993. "Twenty-six years without getting on a motorcycle are many: at the beginning it was strange, but thanks to this opportunity I felt young again", explained Rainey.
