Five people were arrested by the financiers of the Gico of Palermo and by the police of the Ros with the accusation, for various reasons, of Mafia association and aiding and abetting. Among the people who ended up in jail there are the Sciacca headmaster Accursio Dimino and also Antonello Nicosia, member of the National Committee of Italian Radicals for years engaged in battles for the rights of prisoners. It is on Nicosia, a forty-eight-year-old native of Sciacca, who according to the prosecution could count the bosses close to the super-fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro. Together with Pina Occhionero, a parliamentarian of the former Free and Equalists who recently passed to Italia Viva who is not under investigation, of whom he would have said he was a collaborator, Nicosia met several bosses detained in prison. According to the prosecutor's office, it would have acted as a link between mafia bosses, some of them in 41a, and the clans taking outside messages and orders. Occhionero will be heard by prosecutors in Palermo as a witness. Claiming to be a member of Parliament's staff – the magistrates have delegated checks to the House to see if it is true – Nicosia could have meetings with Mafia godfathers and in intercepted conversations the Radical exponent emphasized the advantage of entering penal institutions together with the deputy as this kind of visits were not subject to permits.

Interceptions: Messina Denaro was "the prime minister" – From the interceptions it emerged that Nicosia – who on TV spoke of the legality and rights of prisoners – defined the Capaci massacre in which the judge died Giovanni Falcone "an accident at work" and said that "since he went to the Ministry of Justice more than the magistrate he was a politician". Intercepted for months, talking on the phone, he made contemptuous judgments about the judge killed by the mafia in 1992. For Matteo Messina Denaro, instead, he used words like "prime minister". Not knowing that he was intercepted, he talked animatedly about the godfather of Castelvetrano on the phone and invited his interlocutor to talk cautiously about Messina Denaro. "You don't have to talk to matula (nonsense, ed)", he said. Together with Antonello Nicosia e Accursio Dimino – the latter, aged sixty-one, is a fish entrepreneur and former professor of physical education, who has always been very close to Messina Denaro – ended up in handcuffs, during the operation of the financiers of the Gico of Palermo and the police of the Ros, also three other people and offices, shops and houses were searched in the availability of those arrested.

On March 25th the bugs placed on the umpteenth car chartered by Nicosia record his voice while recording a voice message with the recipient perhaps once again the Honorable Giuseppina Occhionero, who was not involved in the investigation. In the audio Nicosia he invoked "San Matteo", according to the prosecutors, referring to the fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro. "We pray to Saint Matthew … all Matthew … all … all of them … all … good ones … bad ones … all Matthew … Saint Matthew protect us … protect us Saint Matthew … never against Saint Matthew … never against Saint Matthew … Honorable … ever we must never say that we have been against St. Matthew, one can never know … never against St. Matthew, for now there is St. Matthew who commands and we are, let us pray to St. Matthew … thanks St. Matthew for what you give us all days … thanks … thanks … thanks ". "The empathy that linked Nicosia to that family was not only that related to the conditions of detention of its numerous members (still held in Italian prisons) but it concerned, above all, the most important representative who, in reality, in a prison facility he had never entered, "write the prosecutors of the Palermo Dda.

Occhionero: "Thanks to the judiciary, I was deceived by its false curriculum"

"I thank the judiciary and the police for the extraordinary work against the Mafia. From what emerges from the news reported in the newspapers what Nicosia said and wrote was far from the truth, coming to convey mafia messages on behalf of the prisoners. What we read in the interceptions is still shameful and very serious ": the comment arrived from the Italy Viva parliamentarian Giuseppina Occhionero regarding the arrest of Nicosia. "The collaboration with me, which lasted only four months, was born by virtue of his resume, in which he pretended to be a university lecturer as well as a scholar of prisoners' rights – emphasizes the deputy -. As soon as I was able to realize that the his curriculum and his stories did not correspond to reality I interrupted the collaboration. The visits in prison, moreover, are part of the parliamentary work to guarantee the rights of both prisoners and those who work there ". "Now I am deeply disappointed, but justice will take its course. I hope as soon as possible. Despite being completely foreign to the matter, I am still available to the judiciary to be able to provide any element that may be useful", concludes the parliamentary .
