One of a kind that is unique in its kind. The most expensive watch in the world is the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, auctioned for about 28 million euros (31 million Swiss francs) at the annual charity auction Only Watch organized by the company to fund research on muscular dystrophy. Hand-wound mechanical movement, stainless steel, 18-karat pink gold case, hand-stitched shiny black squared alligator leather strap, this model has surpassed the previous record, a Paul Newman Rolex sold for 17.8 million dollars.
Launched in 2014 on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Geneva-based company, Grandmaster Chime joined the manufacturer's regular collection in a white gold version in 2016. In addition to the steel case, the ref. 6300A-010 Grandmaster Chime stands out for its dials in opal golden and ebony black, as well as for the writing "The Only One" on the dial of the subsidiary alarm clock, further distinctive sign of its exclusivity.
Thanks to the auction Only Watch, the proceeds will benefit research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease that affects children. To date, the event has raised over $ 40 million.
