After the controversial qualifying session of Mexico, which had seen him author of the best time but then relegated to fourth position on the grid for not having slowed down following the Bottas incident, Max Verstappen returned to stand out on the dry lap with a great pole conquered by force in Brazil.

Red Bull had shown from the qualifications to adapt very well to the San Paolo track, and the Dutch driver managed to get to the top of the list of times already in the first attempt in Q3 despite a slight off-track excursion.

Even with that small mistake, Verstappen had managed to score the fastest time with a margin of just 8 thousandths on Sebastian Vettel, but the Dutchman was not satisfied and in the second attempt he managed to improve himself until taking the advantage of Ferrari's German to 123 thousandths.

Max was able to celebrate the second pole of the season, but when he arrived at the press conference he joked with the media emphasizing that for him this is the third pole of the year.

"In reality, there are three poles. I consider myself the author of three poles because I also count the one obtained in Mexico ”.

Verstappen then "pampered" his Red Bull at the end of the session. Max, in fact, spent words of love for the car designed by Adrian Newey that today gave him really pleasant sensations behind the wheel.

"Today the car was really good. During the session the track temperatures changed and we had to adapt, but since Q1 the car was flying. It was really nice to drive and I am delighted to have taken this pole. "

The Dutchman then explained what led him to the mistake in the first attempt in Q3 which threatened to cost him dear. Verstappen, once back in the pits, did not lose his cool and when he started again on the track he completed a near-perfect lap with a time of 1’07’508.

"I tried a different trajectory but the track was warmer. In the first attempt I went slightly wide, while in the second I didn't make the same mistake ".

Last year Max lost a race practically dominated due to the controversial contact with Ocon during a dubbing phase of the French driver. Will Verstappen manage to win the vanished success in the final stages of last season?

"I will certainly try to finish the race, then we'll see."
