Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote a letter to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to ask him to modify a map in the documentary Only the devil knows. The documentary, on the streaming platform from November 4, talks about John Demjanjuk, a Ukrainian-naturalized American man accused of being the prison guard of a Nazi death camp.

Morawiecki accuses Netflix of having shown a map in which the death camps are represented within the borders of present-day Poland, while at the time of the events they were in the territories occupied by Nazi Germany, therefore under the responsibility of the Germans. Morawiecki said in the letter that it is important "to honor the memory and preserve the truth about the Second World War and the Holocaust" and accused Netflix of having done a "largely inaccurate" job and of "rewriting history".

Morawiecki's letter is part of a larger attempt by the Polish government to reduce collaboration with the Nazis and responsibility for the crimes committed by the Poles during the war, for example in Auschwitz. Last February, the parliament passed a law prohibiting accusing Poland of complicity in the Holocaust and referring to the Nazi concentration camps in Poland as "Poles". The law also changed the role of the National Memory Institute (the IPN, created in the country after the fall of the communist regime), including in its objectives the protection of the good name of the Polish nation.
