For this edition of EICMA 2019 the Japanese company has decided to bring two new adventure models to Milan: V-Strom 1050 and 1050XT, similar in concept with respect to the previous model, but revised deeply both in design and technology.
Let's start with the name: as in previous models, the V-Strom versions will be two, that standard and the XT but to change, it is the displacement that now, at least in the name, it rose to 1050. Why only in the name? Because, in practice, the cylinder capacity of the 90 ° V twin remains the same as the MY 2019, or 1,037 cc, while to change are the data of the power supplied, which rises to 107.4 hp at 8,500, 6.8 hp more than the previous model and 500 rpm higher. Instead, the torque drops to 1 Nm at the same speed, thus reaching a 100 Nm.
Another novelty concerning the engine is compliance with the regulations on pollution, respecting the regulations now Euro 5 thanks to a new exhaust system.
Another novelty in terms of engine is the possibility of buying one 35 kW reduced version for A2 license holders, thus making the bike available even to beginners.
From the aesthetic point of view, the changes have been many and obvious, starting from the view that the front where the lighting system gains a new rectangular LED light, which is paired with the new beak and the new fairings, now with sharper and more angular lines.
Also at the rear one was adopted new optical unit for the stop, always with LED, which differs between the two versions: with red lens for the standard version and with transparent lens for the XT, giving the bike a more sophisticated look. Even the arrows and mirrors change between the two versions with the sharpest XT details in the design, giving an impression of greater quality and modernity. New then the saddle for the XT that is adjustable to different heights and that, thanks to a new design, should guarantee a increase in driving comfort.
For models 2020 of the V-Strom 1050 and 1050XT, Suzuki has been particularly committed to taking care of details, introducing details that, compared to the previous model, are certainly pleasing to the end user, attentive to these issues. Let's talk about one grainy black finish on the crankcases, which is somewhat reminiscent of asphalt and a new one aluminum engine guard for the version XT, with new paramotor bars that accentuate the vocation of maxi enduro.
The call of the MY 2020 to the DR Big of the 1980s has become even more pronounced, not only thanks to the light that takes the shape of the old model, but also thanks to two new liveries for the XT, that is the classic red-white scheme that recalls the Marlboro and yellow-blue livery in memory of that Camel. Both fit very well with the modern reinterpretation of the vintage model. As for the other colors, instead, the XT will also be available in black / orange, while the standard model can be purchased in black, white or black / gray.
The news for the model 2020 also concern electronics, which has been extensively revised to bring it to the level of competition. For both versions the electronic accelerator was introduced with ride-by-wire which allows you to have three different driving modes that manage the throttle response, leaving however, the power supplied was unchanged. Also the Traction Control has been updated and now it can be set to three different levels of intervention or, alternatively, excluded.
All the informationfinally, they can be easily consulted through full-LCD instrumentation which has been largely updated with respect to the last model.
As for the version XT, there have been further developments in electronics which include the cruise control, braking distributor according to the load, braking modulator in descent and assistance in starting uphill. These last three innovations have been made possible thanks to the adoption of a new and more sophisticated IMU platform, able to manage a large number of data at a higher speed than in the past.
Speaking instead of comfort, the XT now has a windscreen that can be adjusted to different positions, ensuring better air flow.
In conclusion, for 2020 Suzuki has not been spared, condensing on the two models many innovations aimed at improving a product that, thanks to its own technical characteristics and to a competitive price, has already managed to achieve good success over the years.
