The work, which also includes the rising star-born Jonathan Majors (The Last Black Man In San Francisco) and produced by the same Jay-Z, is described as a western revenge-movie: the story centers on the outlaw Nat Love (Majors), who gathers his old band when he finds out that the man who killed his parents twenty years before (Elba) was released from prison.
Jeymes Samuel will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Boaz Yakin, and is also credited as a producer alongside Lawrence Bender, James Lassiter and Jay-Z. Samuel is a songwriter also known as The Bullitts, and has previously collaborated with Jay-Z on the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby: the duo will write and produce original music also for The Harder They Fall.
For Elba it is the second film in collaboration with the streaming service on demand after the success of Beasts of No Nation by Cary Fukunaga, which also earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Recently we saw him in the role of the villain in the spinoff Fast & Furious, Hobbs & Shaw, with protagonists Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Jason Statham. Will come back in cats, the new musical by Tom Hooper, and is currently engaged in filming The Suicide Squad by James Gunn.
