Motorola Razr X, the return of an icon in a folding version

As with the great movie remakes, there is great anticipation around the moves of Motorola, ready to dust off the Razr V3 in a modern version. The mobile phone which surprised everyone in 2004 with its subtlety record – the development team managed to reach 13.9 mm instead of the 10 mm desired by the company – and soon exceeded the success of the historian Startac, signed by the same US company, selling more than 130 million pieces. It will cost less than the others

As they must be taken with pliers waiting for official confirmations, according to the leaks that run on the network the flexible Razr when closed should resemble a square, to then offer a 6.2 "screen once opened, with the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, 4/6 GB RAM, 128 GB internal memory and 2730 mAh battery to complete the profile. The specifications, in particular for chips, storage space and autonomy leave some doubts also because, as revealed by the Wall Street Journal, the first Motorola folding will be on sale for a price not less than $ 1,500 (however less than the two Asian options, also considering the usual increase for the Italian market due to taxes, because Samsung starts from 2,050 euros and Huawei from 2,299 euros).

No nostalgia operation

Presiding from the start the latest frontier of the smartphone market is a primary goal for Lenovo (which in 2014 acquired Motorola's mobile division from Google for $ 2.9 billion), a leading notebook and a leader in the growing branch of laptop-tablet convertibles. Last spring, the Chinese unveiled the first ThinkPad X1 computer with a flexible screen that will arrive in 2020, so after the Razr X that should be available during the upcoming Christmas holidays. Looking at the type of project and investment, the plan certainly cannot be compared to the nostalgia operation carried out by Nokia with the 3310 (another historical mobile sales champion), which overall turned out to be a winner for the relaunch and the image of the Finnish brand. However, the intent with the foldable smartphone is very different, because it is about providing an alternative, offering consumers innovations to show that all the big names in the sector will have to come back to deal with Motorola (and Lenovo).
