MotoGP, Marc: "Alex left too early and fell … like a real Marquez"

"I didn't say much to Alex, only: start and find out what the bike is like. Unfortunately, it started too soon. When I saw him come out of the pits this morning, among the very first, I said to myself, he is really a Marquez!". Although he tries to hide it, there is pride in the words of Marc Marquez as he tells his impressions of his brother's debut in the Valencia tests. Despite being very professional, the heart cannot be commanded and in the end it is also possible to laugh at a harmless slip that comes from the heat.

Did you expect him to make a mistake?

"He left too early. The track conditions were not good and I thought: he doesn't know how the Michelin and MotoGP are in the cold (Laughs). When you have no experience you think you can go out but, even though our tires work very well, when the temperatures are very low it is very difficult. The curves 4 and 10 are the most dangerous and Alex lost the front just at that point ".

Not the best way to start …

"He was unlucky because he had only one bike and lost confidence. Then it improved step by step, but I didn't follow it much because I was focused on my work. Swe all know that MotoGP is a difficult category and even understanding Honda is not easy, it simply has to find its way to improvement".

Didn't you give him any advice?

"I think it is better not to fill it with information, if I can give him some advice I will do it, but at home not here. Everyone on the track works alone and I have enough things to do, Alberto and Emilio are there to help him. Honda is a bike that requires courage and he has already shown it by accepting this project, I wasn't sure he said yes ".

Don't you have a special eye for him?

"There are people who think that things are being given away, but they are not. My teammate is the Moto2 world champion and not my brother. I'm a professional and I have to share things".

So nothing changes for you to have Alex on the other side of the box?

"In the end my work doesn't change. Obviously I'm happy for my brother, because when a MotoGP team gives you an opportunity you have to take it and that's what it did. I will try to help him if I can, but in the end everyone is alone on his bike".

Qui Alex is in Cecchinello's facility, will you share the garage next week in Jerez?

"I don't know, Honda will decide that. I am focused on my winter tests which will be very important because I have a lot of things to try. I couldn't even talk to him yet "today.

You too fell today …

"It was a very strange fall, I had just come out of the pits, I was going slow but as soon as I put a gear I flew into the air. I was driving the 2020 prototype, there were no mechanical problems but, sometimes, when you're trying out some new things you don't expect similar reactions. Fortunately for me it was not a problem from a physical point of view and it does not even change our plans for tomorrow".

Did you rush to retrieve parts of the bike, was there any secret to hide?

"I destroyed the bike, so I picked up some pieces. I thought it was the control unit and I took it, but in the end it wasn't that (Laughs) ".

Did you use the new frame?

"Not today. I like it, but I preferred to use the standard one because I only have one. On Friday and Saturday, during the GP, I started trying some things to better prepare for the work of these days".

Did the new engine satisfy you?

"I started to understand things, although this is not the best way to clarify the ideas about the engine. However I can say that we start from a good base ".
