MotoGP, Alex Marquez: "My fall was a debutante mistake"

Most of the spotlight on this first day of testing in Valencia was on Alex Marquez. At Ricardo Tormo, Marc's younger brother was able to make his debut in MotoGP, gaining confidence with the 2019 Honda, followed by Lucio Cecchinello's team. Only in Jerez will he reach the HRC box, where he will find his brother and the team led by Ramon Aurin which followed Jorge Lorenzo until last Sunday.

A start certainly not that simple of Alex in Cheste, to the point of being the protagonist of a fall after a few minutes from the beginning of the round. The program has forced Marquez jr to remain in the pits for a long time. Only in the afternoon he returned to the track.

"I think it was a positive day for me – began Alex – pity about that fall, it was a debutante mistake. However, I tried to improve lap by lap and remain positive for this Tuesday. The fall changed the program of the day, but as I said my day turned out to be positive. Obviously I still have a lot to learn, especially with regards to the tires, even though I'm quite satisfied with the pace, so much so that I can improve competitiveness on several corners ”.

However, Alex's mind is turned to Wednesday.

"Tomorrow I will try to do more laps, trying to be faster. Compared to the Moto2, MotoGP is more powerful and there is a big difference in carbon brakes. This second aspect is undoubtedly the one that most impressed me. Obviously I have to keep working, trying to be attentive and at the same time focused on the new bike ".

There is also another aspect that Spanish does not tend to overlook.

"For sure the electronics used in Moto2 was an important aid to get more ready in this category. Facing the MotoGP after the last year has made me more prepared ".

On the track the Marquez brothers were able to meet only on rare occasions.

"I haven't had a chance to meet Marc outside the track, but we will certainly talk – commented – he is a professional and consequently he is focused on his work. If I had to ask him something, I would ask him how he saw me on the bike (Smiles). Apart from that I found myself well on the Honda and this is the most important thing of all. "

Obviously there was the sorrow for the slip that occurred in the morning.

"Puig told me not to worry, although sorry to have lost so much time. The most important thing is to grow as a pilot and know the limit of the bike. So I hope to understand everything for Qatar and get ready for the Jerez test, where maybe I'll already be in the box with my brother. This was the first day in MotoGP and I covered a few laps, so everything looks good. "

Yet already a few years ago Alex was able to try Honda

"It's true, but the bike is very different and it's difficult to make a comparison"

The Spaniard is aware of what awaits him.

"This is a great opportunity to learn and grow, among other things I am in a great team like Honda, where the goal is to improve myself as a driver. I will try to do my best, together with my team, which will be the same as Lorenzo's ”.
