However, he did so riding a Honda that was constantly criticized by the other pilots of the brand, which indicate it as a bike more difficult than the previous one, particularly in the corners.
Surprisingly, however, Marquez's main requests for the 2020 bike are related to the grip at the corner exit and the final stage of braking.
The second is an aspect on which there has already been a great improvement this year, thanks to the more powerful engine, but Marquez believes that too much work is still required on the front tire.
"We are suffering to have better control in the corners," said Marquez when asked what he wanted from the 2020 version of the RC213V.
"Now Yamaha really has more grip. At the moment it is the best bike, especially with new tires it is incredible."
"This is one of the themes, but we also have many other ideas, lots of things to do."
"We must try not to force so much on the front and have more grip on the rear when coming out of the corners."
Cal Crutchlow, of LCR Team, is the only other Honda driver who managed to get on the podium in 2019, even if just three times, and then occupies ninth place in the World Championship, 262 points behind Marquez.
The Briton has asked Honda to make a more constant motion, stating that the pilots of the Japanese House must strive much more than those of the competition to be fast in the same way.
"If the bike is more constant, we can be fast without feeling too close," Crutchlow said when asked by the new Honda.
"If you look at the bikes on the track and I'm sure you can see that to make the same time our bike is by far the most difficult to ride".
"We probably do 50% more effort than others to be equally fast, or even slower. And that means more risk."
"I know, Honda is fully aware of our demands, but what we have is not so bad. It's simply not competitive enough for all the drivers," the Brit concluded.
