They were returning home after being at the Gemelli Polyclinic for tests. They had left yesterday afternoon from Rome, at a time of Drapia, a small town in the province of Vibo Valentia, in Calabria, 1200 kilometers by car going back to keep the disease against which the girl had been struggling for some time and with control promise of a new therapy. But this time the trip was tragically interrupted on the A30 Caserta-Salerno motorway, with a crash that destroyed a Calabrian family living in the Brattirò district: on impact they died Caterina Costa, 25, and mother, Teresa Furchì, 50 years; the father, Antonio Costa, aged 54, was seriously injured.
The car of the Costa family is one of those involved in the two accidents that took place yesterday evening, November 14th, in the section between the A1 and Nola connections towards the south, at km 9 and 10, and which involved a total of five cars and a heavy vehicle. The crash occurred between 7.30pm and 8pm, shortly after the last contact between the Calabrian family and family members. From a first reconstruction it would have been a chain accident, whose causes remain to be established. In addition to the fire brigade, there were also the 118 health workers for the rescue of the victims.
Upon arrival of the rescue, the two women had already died, probably dead on the spot due to the impact violence; his father, extracted from the plates by the Fire Brigade, was transported to the hospital in Caserta where he was hospitalized in serious condition but would not be life threatening. Upset the small Calabrian center, where everyone knew the Costa family and they gathered around the only survivor.
