The little girl, who did not appear premature, had been wrapped in a Havana-colored cover, had a small black sweater and the zipper of the bag had been half-closed to cover it from the cold but at the same time to allow the child to breathe. Finally, the bag had been sheltered behind the drug container but also visible to passers-by. Even the place where it was abandoned, a pharmacy, probably was not chosen at random. Wretched illusions
The child, born a few hours ago with the umbilical cord not yet severed, was found dead by a patrol of the carabinieri who had been warned by two employees of the municipal pharmacy Farmapiana Spa in via San Martino, around 11.45 am yesterday morning. That after seeing the canvas bag, of a sporting type with handles, they called 112 as it sometimes does when some suspicious object is left in the street or near a shop, without even imagining that there was that little body in there.
The newborn, of fair complexion, had probably died recently and perhaps had been left there before the pharmacy opened. Only hypothesis, because, only the autopsy on the body of the newborn that will be performed today and the analysis of the surveillance cameras, which certainly have framed the person in charge of the gesture, will be able to tell the truth.
The carabinieri of the Florence investigative unit, under the command of Colonel Carmine Rosciano, listened to witnesses and watched the videos until late in the evening. And the power of attorney (the investigations are coordinated by the deputy Concetta Gintoli) has opened a file for infanticide.
