Italian ship attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Mexico: fire against the crew, wounded (photo Vesselfinder)

A ship Italian was attacked by the pirates in the Gulf of Mexico and there would be two wounded. The attack, by a commando consisting of 7/8 pirates, took place last night. The pirates – reports the AdnKronos – have reached the motorship Remas (photo by Vesselfinder.com) aboard two fast little boats and, after getting on board, they opened fire on the crew, robbing them of what they could. So the pirates left the ship and left.

One seafarer was wounded in the knee by a bullet, the other was hit on the head with a blunt instrument. The crew rejected the assault. At the time of the attack, there were 35 people on the ship, including an officer from the Mexican Merchant Navy, who then coordinated contacts with the local authorities. The two wounded were disembarked in the port of Ciudad del Carmen, where Remas arrived escorted by a Mexican military unit and where the alerted medical personnel were located to rescue the two seafarers.

The Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs follows the case of the ship with the utmost attention and in conjunction with the Italian Embassy in Mexico City.

Remas is owned by Micoperi, a company based in Ravenna that represents one of the major offshore industry contractors. It is a supply ship for offshore oil platforms, 75 meters long and with a tonnage of 2,600 tons. It was built in 2011 in Turkey and is currently sailing with the Italian flag.
