Alexander Albon is the fastest in the first free sessions of Brazilian Grand Prix, conditioned by the rain that falls on Interlagos. The pilot of the Red Bull prints a time of 1: 16.142 and then ends up against the barriers, ending the session a couple of minutes early. Behind him the Mercedes of Bottas, 2nd at +0.551. They follow Vettel (3rd to +0.899) e Leclerc (4th to +1.143) on Ferrari, without timed times Hamilton is Verstappen.

Heavy rain on San Paolo, and inevitably even the first Interlagos free practices are heavily influenced by the weather conditions, a weather that brings back to the mind of Ferrari fans two world championships lost dramatically at the last race right here (the 2012 one with Fernando Alonso and above all that of 2008 with the home hero Felipe Massa). However, the rain is decreasing during the session, so much so that everything ignites only in the last four minutes when the big enter the track with intermediate tires and then even with dry ones. To pay the consequences are the two Red Bulls, with Max Verstappen the author of a spin already in the first chicane and Alexander Albon even on the wall at the Juncão curve. This allows the Anglo-Thai to close in front of everyone, preventing others from improving when the track had reached the best conditions of the morning.

Also for this reason Verstappen (the first to fail on the slimy asphalt of Interlagos) and especially Lewis Hamilton remain at the bottom of the ranking without even a valid time, like Perez and Grosjean. Therefore the parameters of the track on the balance between the candidates to win the Paulista race are missing, given that we must be content with what happened in the previous phases in the rain. A phase that had seen Ferrari in great form, with Charles Leclerc for a long time first and Sebastian Vettel able to place behind him, however, detached by 459 thousandths. The Renault also fit, with Hulkenberg and Ricciardo ahead of Sainz's McLaren. But when it starts to be really serious, Albon's bang pushes everyone back to the afternoon session, starting at 7.00 pm Italian time. And also the answers that Ferrari expects from the new rear wing, mounted on Vettel's car in the final stages of the session.
