Fifth position for Valtteri Bottas, of the Mercedes, in front of Alexander Albon, of Red Bull. Seventh time for a convincing one Pierre Gasly, of Toro Rosso, author of a decidedly better performance than that of his teammate; follows Romain Grosjean, of the Haas. Complete the top ten Kimi Raikkonen, of the Alfa Romeo Racing, e Kevin Magnussen, of the Haas. The American team placed both drivers in the top ten.
Beginning the Q1 dances for the top teams were Vettel and Leclerc: Vettel took the best time with the reds, having cut Leclerc by 36 thousandths. But the two were soon beaten by Albon; Verstappen did even better, two tenths faster than his team-mate. On the other hand, Hamilton's first starting point was only slow, ahead of Bottas. Five minutes from the end of the first qualifying round, Leclerc has improved, climbing to second place. The first two drivers to take to the track in Q2 were Bottas and Hamilton, who chose the red ones.
Different strategy for Leclerc, who opted for the yellow ones: a forced decision, that of trying to start with the intermediate compound, given that Leclerc will start back for his penalty. In the first attempt in Q2, Verstappen set the fastest time, ahead of Leclerc, author of an excellent lap against compound, and to Hamilton. Vettel, released later than rivals, has entered third place, a tenth and a half behind his team mate, despite the more competitive compound. To play the charge in Q3, beating Vettel for only eight thousandths, was Verstappen, despite an error in his lap.
The young McLaren rookie was excluded from the Q3 for only 30 thousandths Lando Norris; English preceded Daniel Ricciardo, under Renault. The Australian consoles himself by winning the battle inside the Enstone team with Nico Hulkenberg, fourteenth. Among them he inserted himself Antonio Giovinazzi: the Alfa Romeo Racing home rider was the protagonist of a spin at the end of time. Fifteenth time for the Mexican Racing Point, Sergio Perez.
The first of the excluded from Q1 is the Russian of Toro Rosso, Daniil Kvyat, whose team-mate, Gasly, has instead easily passed the cut. Also deleted Lance Stroll, of the Racing Point; the Canadian loses the battle inside the team with Perez, who arrived at Q2 at the hair. Eighteenth position for George Russell, which preceded the neighbor of box, Robert Kubica.
The qualifications of Carlos Sainz they lasted very little: at the beginning of Q1, the Spaniard from McLaren accused an engine problem, which led Woking team technicians to call him to the pits to work on the car. The incident was not resolved before the end of Q1, and Sainz will thus start from the back of the grid.

The penultimate qualifications of the 2019 season of Formula 1, those of the Brazilian Grand Prix, I'm at the door, so it's time for the odds: who is the favorite for the pole position at Interlagos? According to Friday's free practice data, the Ferrari proved to be extremely competitive on the dry lap. Austin's problems seem a distant memory: the deficit in speed on the straight line accused in the US not only seems to have been filled, but the Red one seems even faster than before.
Numbers, these, that seem to silence the doubts and the insinuations on the engine of the Ferrari, given that Austin's performances had been denounced by many as proof of the importance of the flow meter control system on which the FIA issued a technical directive before the US GP. GP in which, in truth, after Vettel's withdrawal only the performances of Leclerc counted, which however had an old engine and therefore not indicative.
But above all, net of the controversy, these numbers indicate a performance capable of being able to project Charles Leclerc is Sebastian Vettel in the first row. However, Leclerc will start much further back, as he will have to pay a penalty of ten positions on the grid for replacing the endothermic engine on his SF90. In FP3 Ferrari remained a step back, but tried the first lap ahead of the others, with a track in strong evolution. A tough rival for Ferrari could be Max Verstappen: the Dutch of Red Bull has played the position for the qualification, resulting more competitive in the last two sectors, the most driven, in which the optimal traction guaranteed by the RB15 returns definitely useful.
And the Mercedes? The picture of the situation may have returned the same as in recent times, with the Brackley team less fast on the dry lap than Ferrari, but with an advantage over the race pace. Ingredients, these, that would give life to an interesting race, with the Rossa able to get a more advanced place on the grid, and the Silver Arrows in pursuit with their incessant rhythm. This net of a Hamilton exploit today, after playing the post in FP3. In all this, another unknown could spoil the cards on the table: during the qualifications, in fact, it could rain.
