Erri De Luca: in the theater the explorer of the soul

Gluttonous appointment with one of the most appreciated and original contemporary writers, today, Sunday 17 November, at the Teatro Sociale di Como.

At 4.30pm, Erri De Luca will be a guest in the White Room of the theater to meet readers and present his most recent novel, entitled "Impossible", published by Feltrinelli last September. (Series: I Narratori, pages: 128, price: 13 euros).

Admission to the meeting is free until all available places have been filled. The new writing of the Neapolitan author is, once again, an intimate exploration of the human soul. In the inaccessible scenery of a mountain landscape, during a walk, two men, who are divided by an ancient and grave enmity, accidentally meet on the same path. Many years before, in fact, one has accused the other and their relationship has changed forever. On the mountain path, something irreparable happens and destiny marks the lives of both again and permanently.

Later, one of the two characters stands before a young magistrate who interrogates him. Between the two a tight comparison of words is triggered, in which the value, whose deep meaning is the beating heart of the story and the narrative occasion.

As anyone who has read Erri De Luca's previous production knows, that of language, its codes and its value, is one of the fundamental themes of this author's writing. Here is a brief excerpt from the novel: «Ammoremio, here I am back in the intimacy of the locked meters. It's raining outside and I know it from the roar inside the eaves. You didn't study Latin, I did. There are two verbs with the meaning of asking, one serves and ask to know, the other serves to ask to obtain. While the magistrate insisted with questions, he said he wanted to know the truth. It's not true. He asks for confirmation of what he believes he already knows. He does not use the verb of the curiosity of those who want to inform themselves or even know a truth. He doesn't need it. While he questioned me, I remembered the two Latin verbs ».

So today, in Como, the most faithful readers but also those who have never met the writing, usually dense and dry, by De Luca, will be able to listen to the author's story and discuss with him many different themes: from literature to current events, from politics to philology, from theater to translations.

At 18.30, in the Foyer, the show "Skianto" is presented, with Filippo Timi, scheduled, during the Night Season, 20 and 21 November, at 8.30pm. The show will mark the debut of the theater's prose season. Also in this case, the entrance to the meeting will be free.
