In Bibione the high water has flooded the whole area of Pineda, and in the center it has arrived as far as Piazzale Zenith. The internal area of the basins is also flooded, as is the entire left side of Tagliamento to Jesolo. The situation is serious in Caorle, with kilometers of eroded beach: in fact the coast is halved.
The fishermen and breeders of the Po delta, where high tides have taken away all the "little houses" that were used for the breeding of mussels and clams, also count.
On alert, after the first night of damage, also the island of Pellestrina where two deaths were counted: for this night a new flood wave is expected at 1.20 meters: Pellestrina is the first natural barrier of the Lagoon, and also the first to end up flooded in case of high water.
Marco Michielli, president of Confturismo and Federalberghi Veneto, as well as national vice president of both federations, explains: "We are literally with water in the throat. we are still counting the damage on the whole coast from Bibione, butchered by bad weather, in Jesolo and Chioggia ».
"The most striking problem is Venice, but I want to emphasize that I read it very little in the national newspapers that we had very big problems even on the beaches. The beach of Bibione has been practically "slaughtered", the port with winds at 100 per hour will have at least one million euros of damage only from boats. In Jesolo the water has reached the center. We have the lower floors flooded up to two meters high, "says Marco Michielli.
Claudio Scarpa, president of the Venetian hoteliers association, echoes this: "It is devastation: the damage is enormous and unfortunately it is not over here. The high tides are continuing and the electric panels have been skipped so the hotels do not even have the pumps available to let the water out. Many structures found themselves in serious difficulty last night, with the tidal peak of 187 centimeters ».
The regional councilors of the Democratic Party, Francesca Zottis and Bruno Pigozzo, comment on this "the bad weather that devastated and, in fact, canceled the beaches of Jesolo, Eraclea, Caorle and Bibione". "Now it's time to call everyone to their responsibilities – adds Dem representatives – we can no longer limit ourselves to repairing the damage, we must act in perspective before it is too late".
