ROME – There are no humanitarian ships in the Mediterranean right now but migrants continue to leave by the hundreds. As many as 200 were rescued by the Italian merchant ship Asso30, which last night and this morning gave assistance to two dinghies in the sea area in international waters near the oil platforms.

The Italian coastguard operations center was informed of the situation and the merchant ship is now awaiting instructions. It is difficult to ask a merchant to wait with so many migrants on board for all the days necessary to negotiate redistribution in Europe. A new situation due to the absence of NGO rescue ships.

Ocean Viking and Open Arms after disembarking the people rescued in recent days are heading to the ports of Marseille and Palermo for change of crew and the Alan Kurdi with about ninety migrants is heading towards Taranto, safe harbor assigned yesterday by the Interior Ministry
