Fatal road accident, at around 9.30pm yesterday, in the Modena district. A Honda Hornet motorcycle and a Fiat Panda collided, exactly in via Modena at the Coni field.
To have the worst the driver of the two-wheeled vehicle, died shortly after the impact. This is the 24-year-old Reggino Walter Domenico Zema for whom the rescue of the "118" health workers, who tried to revive him, turned out to be useless.
The injuries sustained in the violent impact are too serious. On the spot, due to the findings of the case, the officers of the local police mobile radio unit, committed to reconstructing the exact dynamics of the serious accident, and a steering wheel of the State Police. It is impossible, at the moment, to enter the field of responsibilities; we will first have to wait for the framework of checks to be complete. The two people aboard the Fiat Panda, mother and son, brought minor injuries.
A tragedy, that of last night, which will make today's anniversary even more bitter; also on the banks of the Strait in fact, as in every other capital city of the peninsula, the "National Day in memory of the victims of the road" will be celebrated, a moment of remembrance and reflection that is dedicated to the victims of road accidents and their families.
An initiative that wants to contribute to changing the negative habits of motorists. Road safety is in fact one of the major problems facing European countries. The fourth European Road Safety Action Program 2010 -2020 quantifies a new target indicating a further 50% reduction in road accident victims in 10 years.
A complex process has been underway for years in Italy to deal with the phenomenon of accidents which obviously also affected the province of Reggio Calabria. According to traffic police data in 2018, 988 road accidents occurred in the provincial territory, during which 1,555 people suffered injuries and 29 died.
The Traffic Police Section of Reggio Calabria alone found 239 with 393 wounded and 15 dead. There has been a slight decrease compared to 2017 in the number of total accidents, but unfortunately the number of fatal road accidents has increased.
