Until yesterday there was only the Po to divide the Lodigiano from Piacenza. From today there is also the Milan-Naples motorway and in particular the last tollbooth in Lombardy, in Guardamiglio on the Lodi side and just over a kilometer from the Emilian one. The fracture was consummated in the municipal council on Monday evening in Piacenza on the question of the disputed motorway toll: for sixty years it was called Piacenza Nord and only for nine months it had been renamed Basso Lodigiano by Autostrade per l'Italia thanks to the initiative of thirteen mayors and a member of the Lega, Guido Guidesi.
A1, from Piacenza Nord to Basso Lodigiano
For the people of Piacenza, however, the name change does not go right. They want Piacenza Nord at all costs, and in the municipal council they put together a three-hour discussion. Basso Lodigiano means nothing – Antonio Levoni, Liberal Piacentini city councilor and author of the motion to return his city toll-gate, objected – and confuses hauliers and tourists. At the end the leader of the League, Carlo Segalini, added an amendment that softens the tone of the motion (voted unanimously, because the questions of the bell tower manage to unite the opposing political forces): Add Piacenza Nord to Basso Lodigiano and leave both. Obviously with the same characters and size. However, the Piacenza administration is still a point of honor. And not just for them. The battle of the toll booths had also landed in parliament. On the one hand the former League under-secretary Guido Guidesi who had carried out the request of the thirteen Lodigiani mayors to give an identity to a territory that had zero tourist attraction. On the other, Tommaso Foti, a deputy from Piacenza of Fdi, who had spent himself to maintain the historic name of Piacenza Nord, which had existed since 1959.
The Piacenza counter-offensive, which mandates the mayor Patrizia Barbieri to ask the toponymy commission of Autostrade to restore the old signs, does not scare the Lodigians: I did not like the tones of the Piacenza councilors – Elia Bergamaschi, mayor of Guardamiglio, objected lodigiano which houses the disputed toll station) -. When is it necessary to collaborate on more serious questions such as the floods of the Po, Piacenza where? Bergamaschi was the first, already in 2000 to raise the toll problem. Nineteen years later he won and now he doesn't want to give discounts: I accept that the sign for the center of Piacenza is added: but the tollgate in the province of Lodi is it wrong ?.
