On Tuesday morning, 19 people were arrested in Naples on charges of criminal association of the Camorra type, criminal association dedicated to drug trafficking, extortion aggravated by the mafia method and purpose. They would be part of the Mauro Camorra clan, present in the Sanita district. The operation, called "Black Star", was conducted by the Carabinieri of Naples coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate; precautionary measures provide for 18 arrests in prison and one for house arrest. Among those arrested is also the 67-year-old Ciro Mauro, nicknamed "‘ o millionaire »and considered the head of the clan in the so-called Miracoli area, a part of the district.
The survey has reconstructed the changes in alliances and balances of power of organized crime in the Sanita district in recent years, and in particular of the Mauro clan, which controls the drug supplies of the neighborhood's drug outlets. The clan also demanded extortion from entrepreneurs and traders, who did not denounce them for fear of retaliation.
