Twenty players have been named to the Golden Boy Award, the prize for the best footballer under 21 in Europe. Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport unveiled Tuesday the twenty names that can still claim the award. These players must be born at the earliest in 1999. The prize will be awarded on December 16th.

The Golden Boy Award has been organized since 2003. An international jury composed of journalists specialized in football chooses the winner. The list of previous winners contains some prestigious names: Rafael Van der Vaart (2003), Wayne Rooney (2004), Lionel Messi (2005), Cesc Fabregas (2006), Sergio Aguero (2007), Mario Balotelli (2010), Paul Pogba (2013), Raheem Sterling (2014) and Kylian Mbappe (2017).

Last year, it was the Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt, revealed in Ajax, who had won. The player last summer at Juventus is again mentioned this year.

But the favorite this season is the Portuguese Joao Felix. The 19-year-old striker was transferred last summer from Benfica to Atletico Madrid for 126 million euros. He is considered the successor of his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portuguese Selecao.

The youngest Barcelona player Ansu Fati, 16, is also in a hurry. Players Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) and Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) also have their chances.

No Belgian is on the list. Previously, the Red Devils Yuri Tielemans, Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois, Zakaria Bakkali, Adnan Januzaj, Divock Origi and Jason Denayer had appeared.
