The story comes from Brazil. Mateus Henrique Leroy Alves, 37, was found in a luxury hotel where he had stayed for two months after his wife Karine Rodrigues reported him to the police. It is said that he spent money in designer clothes, watches, drugs and alcohol.

The couple had started a campaign of fundraiser for João: every dose of the drug given to their child it cost over € 80,000. The government of Brazil he had agreed to pay the first three treatments for João who got his first dose of the medicine in August. Within a year they raised 230,000 euros and their hometown, Conselheiro Lafaiete, in southeastern Brazil, organized a charity marathon.

But in May this year Mateus would have planned to abandon his wife and son, telling Karine that she needed to take a course as a security guard. The money raised for João was kept by the couple in four bank accounts to which Mateus had access.
