Michael Kalmanovich, who was running in Edmonton – Strathcona, announced on Wednesday that he was retiring from the race to encourage voters to vote "strategically" for his NDP opponent.

Earlier, the Greens announced that they had cut off bridges with Kalmanovich, but did not provide any details or additional comments. His profile has already been removed from the Green Party website. However, his name will appear on the ballots in his riding on polling day next Monday because the deadline to withdraw it has passed. The votes cast in advance will also remain valid.

"The climate crisis is too important for people and parties to do politics as usual," Kalmanovich said in a statement quoted by the Edmonton Journal.

"I have never targeted political power. My goal has always been to change things. That's why I end my campaign and invite my supporters to vote for the party that offers the second best climate plan, "he wrote again. A tight fight is taking place between the NDP and the Conservative Party in Edmonton – Strathcona.

The Greens lose a second candidate in just over a week. On October 7, Marthe Lepine, who was in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Ontario, was shown the door after posting anti-abortion opinions on social media "that did not support the party politics ".

Moreover, Tuesday, the party was embarrassed after four of his Quebec candidates had published Islamophobic comments on social networks. It was the leadership of the party that denounced Greg De Luca, Katherine Turgeon, Jocelyn Rioux and Aline Begin, who apologized.
