After three years the Giro d'Italia returns to Messina. The last stop in the city was for the 2017 edition. The transition to the Straits is scheduled for the sixth stage, scheduled for May 14th. The group will depart from Catania with destination Villafranca Tirrena.
The organizers have planned transit along the Ionian coast, then crossing Messina from south to north: Statale 114, the center, the coast road and the SS 113 along the coast. Also planned is the passage on paved roads that have the Ganzirri lake and Faro as a backdrop.
Around 2020 will start, as usual, from abroad. This year the start will be given by Hungary and then in Sicily there will be the first Italian stop.
The landing of the caravan in Sicily will be on May 12 for the first Italian stop going from the Sicilian capital to Agrigento. Following three other stops in Sicily: planned arrivals in Agrigento, on Etna and the Messina: in Villafranca Tirrena, between Messina and Milazzo. Then Calabria.
