Adam Silver reports that the Chinese authorities have plainly demanded that Daryl Morey be fired for his tweet on Hong Kong.

Tweeter is not allowed in China. And yet, it was enough of a message posted by Daryl Morey on the social network to fire the powders. The leader of the Houston Rockets showed his support for demonstrators for democracy in Hong Kong. This greatly displeased the Chinese authorities. The country immediately boycotted the NBA, causing significant financial losses for the American league. The commissionaire Adam Silver had gone there hoping to settle the conflict and ease tensions. In vain. Back in the United States, he mentioned the local government's requests.

"We were asked to fire him. We replied that it will not happen. We will not even punish him", reported Silver.

According to L'Equipe, the Chinese government denies having made such a request. Daryl Morey's stance was defended by the NBA but was criticized by Tilman Fertitta, owner of the Rockets, and LeBron James in particular.
