(Toronto) An opinion poll conducted after Monday's broadcast of the English-language televised debate of the six federal party leaders gives the Conservative Party (CPC) a seven-point lead in the voting intentions of the electorate.
Telephone survey conducted by Forum Research on Monday evening and Tuesday polls 35% of Conservative supporters, compared to 28% for the Liberal Party (PLC), 13% for the New Democratic Party (NDP), 12% for the Party. Green Party (PV) and 3% to the Popular Party (PPC).
The popular favor given to the Bloc Québécois (BQ) was measured at 7%.
Forum Research believes that the rise of the Bloc Québécois in recent consultations could contribute to the election of a minority Conservative government. The polling house made projections of the distribution of elected officials who concede 152 seats to the Conservative Party, 117 to the PLC, 36 to the Bloc Québécois, 29 to the NDP and 4 to the Green Party.
Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research, said in an interview with Montreal Gazette that the rise of the Bloc directly meets the hopes of the Liberal Party in Quebec, while the Conservative Party has slightly increased its support recently at the national level.
Forum Research reports that 23% of respondents said Conservative leader Andrew Scheer won last Monday's debate ahead of NDP leader Jagmeet Singh (21%), Liberal leader Justin Trudeau (15%), Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet (7%) and Green Party leader Elizabeth May (5%).
The margin of error for the survey was set at 3%, 19 times out of 20.
