The bizarre injuries of sport

Pittsburgh Penguins striker Alex Galchenyuk is currently on the sidelines for a rather special reason, he was bitten by a spider.

As a result of this wacky situation, here are other strange injuries suffered by athletes.

Joe Sakic

In 2008, Sakic had just retired from a generous $ 6 million check from her long-time Colorado Avalanche team (and the Nordics, of course). Hurt on the back a few times, the British-Columbian finally ended his career by severely amzing three of his fingers while maneuvering his snowblower.

Santiago Canizares

Spain goalkeeper Santiago Canizares was injured at the worst possible time in 2002. Canizares was ready for this year's World Cup soccer, but injured his foot before the competition. Apparently, the Spaniard escaped a bottle of aftershave on the floor before cutting a toe on the fragments of glass. He had to be replaced by Iker Casillas, who then became a legend on the side of Real Madrid.

Gus Frerotte
