The man who won the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday is a paradox. By its origins, its course, its references, it is a pure product of Ethiopian authoritarian centralism. Abiy Ahmed is nevertheless blowing up the regime that has built him, today out of breath. An assault from the inside, the only one, in fact, able to save the power of the Revolutionary and Democratic Front of the Ethiopian Peoples (EPRDF), which has ruled the country without interruption since the overthrow of the military-Marxist dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam, in 1991.
