Nicola Zingaretti: "The Democratic Party must be refounded, selfishness and internal conflicts are enough"

"It goes refounded"the Democratic party and end it with internal "selfishness and conflicts", because "frightened citizens want to find their home", he writes Nicola Zingaretti in his speech on the Corriere della Sera. "The right has known more than us to understand the loss of Italians, the eradication of ancient ties, the fear of fragmentation and dispersion", writes the secretary of the PD explaining that among the reasons for the success of Matteo Salvini and of Alloy there is "presence on the territory" and knowing how to propose "strong and clear landings", even if it attacks, "authoritarian, regressive and intolerable for us, illiberal and xenophobic". And Salvini is the "best at telling and representing problems" but he is also "the worst at solving them".

The center-left, Zingaretti continues, "has not been able to do the same on the basis of its ideal, programmatic and identity renewal", and in this dispersion of forces and intent "we have also put something of ours into it". In particular he complained about "a history of conflicts, separations, closures and at times of selfishness", being closed like a hedgehog "in his own self", in his own certainties. Hence the need for a re-establishment of the Democratic Party: "It is not a question of changing some rules but of a fundamental political choice", he concludes, but of "really changing everything to give Italian democracy a rich and participated plural subject of politics" according to the principles of "rebuilding an open community".
