NHL: Penguins inflict first loss this season at Avalanche

            <p>For the 11th time, we had the &quot;Battle of Cole Harbor&quot; between Nova Scotia&#39;s Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. The Pittsburgh Penguins finally won in overtime by a score of 3-2 to inflict their first loss this season at the Colorado Avalanche.

It was Brandon Tanev who broke the deadlock in overtime when his pass in the net deflected off Gabriel Landeskog who could not stop the puck from crossing the red line.

Matt Calvert first gave the Avalanche the lead in the opening minutes with his first goal of the season.

Sidney Crosby then replied at the end of the period with a superb goal. The captain of the Penguins skillfully thwarted Samuel Girard before scoring a shot from behind to complete the spectacular maneuver.

In his 950th game in the NHL, it was his 450th goal.

The second goal of the Penguins were far from naughty. This time, Crosby prepared the goal for Jake Guentzel who snuck through the defense to register another goal to review.

Who other than MacKinnon to finish the reply? At the beginning of the third period, MacKinnon completed a game prepared by Mikko Rantanen who had stolen the puck from Brian Dumoulin to go two-on-one.

The Penguins now have a record of five wins against two losses after seven games. The Avalanche, for its part, had five consecutive victories to start the campaign.

Milano had a spectacular goal midway through the third period. He beat Roope Hintz, took a shot with his stick between his legs and beat Bishop on the far side. One of his accomplices was Jakob Lilja, who scored a first point in the NHL.

The Blue Jackets then took the lead 3-1.

Zach Werenski got the first goal of the Blue Jackets, while Joonis Korpisalo repelled 30 pucks.

Miro Heiskanen and Joe Pavelski have signed the nets for the Stars, who are 1-6-1.

Ben Bishop stopped 32 shots for the Stars, who lost a fourth game in a row.

Dallas will try to correct the shooting in Pennsylvania, Friday and Saturday; first the Penguins, then the Flyers.
