As had happened at Suzuka for Formula 1, even the MotoGP at Phillip Island will be forced to live a beastly Sunday made up of qualifications and a race just a few hours apart. Fault of the fort, very strong wind that lashed the island south of Melbourne, making the track impractical. To explain how this decision was arrived at was Loris Capirossi, who speaking to the microphones of the official MotoGP website told the "behind the scenes" that led to the cancellation of Q1 and Q2: "In the meeting we asked to understand the position of the pilots – explained the former champion of 125 and 250, now a member of Race Direction – most of whom agreed that the conditions weren't safe enough because the wind was very strong. In particular, the wind was not constant: in some places it was really strong, in others less so and it was really difficult to control the bike. In the end we decided to cancel the qualifications ".

The Italian also explained what will be the new calendar scheduled for tomorrow, which remains subject to variations based on the evolution of the weather situation: "We will start the program a little earlier – explained the ex Ducatista – we will do 20 minutes of PL4 of MotoGP, then Q1, Q2 and then there will be the race. We hope that the weather conditions are better for tomorrow but the forecasts indicate that there will certainly be less wind. The other categories? The problem was that the wind became much stronger when the MotoGP started. For tomorrow we'll see what happens. We will evaluate the conditions and decide ". Capirex then explained how, despite there was no unanimity, many pilots agreed on the postponement: "Honestly, the majority agreed. Someone said that we were really at the limit but that we could (go to the track, n.d.r.). But normally it is better to make this decision because almost everyone agreed ”.
