The Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge, refuses to close the door to possible subsidies so that classes of kindergarten 4 years are open in private schools in Quebec.
Yet, no new grants have been awarded to a private school for nearly twelve years. This has been denounced many times by the Federation of Private Education Institutions.
"I can not make a commitment for eternity not to (grant new subsidies) for nursery 4 years, sixth years or secondary 2 retorts Jean-François Roberge. Every time an application is submitted, it is studied, but so far they have been refused. "
The minister was followed by the opposition parties on Thursday, as the study of his draft law on kindergarten 4 years in parliamentary committee ended.
"Here we have a Minister of Education who tells us that he could increase the number of grants to private schools. This is something that is extremely worrying. I think the public school is in great need of love, "laments PQ MP Véronique Hivon.
After the passage of Bill 5, Minister Jean-François Roberge will have the opportunity to open four-year-old kindergarten classes where he sees fit. For the moment, only disadvantaged groups can obtain such a class.
