Symptoms similar to those of a ransomware attack
Because on their arrival, they received the urgent order of " do not switch on or use your PC until further notice ". Today, journalists have had to deal with a very limited Internet connection and resolve to not be able to consult their own documents. Another impact, at least as disabling: all communications, mail and telephone, have been cut.
These elements suggest that this is actually a ransomware, consisting of encrypting the data and demanding ransom against the restoration of access. The latest news was that the IT security team was still working on resolving the incident. They also requested the reinforcement of the National Agency for Security Information Systems (ANSSI), which can provide information on the extent of the attack.
No impact on programs
While the in-house teams have been significantly affected, the M6 Group has nevertheless been reassuring to its viewers and listeners. Its antennas, which include the M6, W9, 6ter, Paris Premiere and Teva TV channels, as well as the RTL, RTL 2 and Fun Radio radio stations, have not been affected and have been able to broadcast their programs without any hassle. .
For the moment, we do not know everything about the origin of the cyberattack and the motivations of its authors. M6 did not give any additional details and ANSSI refused to speak.
When in doubt, it is time for caution with other media groups. For example, employees of the TF1 group have been ordered to avoid any communication by email with their M6 colleagues.
