TheThe leading Democrats, first and foremost Joe Biden, announced on Wednesday their determination to stand up to US President Donald Trump who, under threat of impeachment, chose the maximum confrontation.
Donald Trump "tramples the Constitution and we can not let him get away with it," thundered former Vice President Barack Obama and possible opponent of the billionaire Republican in 2020.
"To protect our Constitution, our democracy, our fundamental principles, it must be targeted by impeachment," he added from New Hampshire. "Pathetic," said the White House tenant in a tweet.
A clash with serious consequences
The outcome of the constitutional clash that starts will be fraught with consequences for Trump but will also be a test for American democratic institutions.
The strategy of the White House is clear: block all requests, try to convince the Republican electorate that the current procedure is a low political maneuver and use the latter to galvanize the troops for the presidential election to come up.
"Democrats-who-do-nothing are obsessed with one thing: harming the Republican Party and the President," Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. "The good news is that WE WILL WIN! ".
