The Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu renounces to form a government and the Israeli president, Reuven Rivlin, has made it known that it therefore intends to confer the mandate to Benny Gantz, head of the Blue and White party. They report it Times of Israel is Haaretz. The waiver came two days before the end of the mandate and now Gantz has 72 hours to accept and 28 days to create an executive.It is the second time in six months that the leader of the Likud, who has turned 70 today, fails to form the government. In the video posted on Facebook, Netanyahu stressed "he has always worked since he received the mandate without cease … to establish a large government of national unity. This is what the people want". But, he added, efforts to "bring Benny Gantz to the negotiating table and prevent another election" failed because his Blue-White party "always refused".
